Precision Materials for Infrared Optics and Data Storage
Germanium is a globally recognised “Technology-Critical Element,” essential for its high refractive index and unique semiconductor properties. While it is the foundational material for fiber-optic communication, its advanced metallurgical value is found in specialized intermetallic compounds used for thermal imaging and energy conversion. At Less Common Metals (LCM), we specialise in the Vacuum Induction Melting (VIM) of Germanium into ultra-high purity cast forms (99.99%) and complex multi-component alloys. By integrating Germanium with elements such as Antimony, Tellurium, and Silver, we produce technical-grade materials for phase-change memory (PCM), thermoelectric generators, and infrared (IR) sensor arrays.
